LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett County Jail personnel found a handgun this week that was brought into the facility by a Duluth man suspected of drug possession, authorities said Friday.
Sheriff's Department deputies found a .25 caliber handgun in a pre-admissions area of the jail Monday after receiving information about the weapon, said department spokesman Lt. Sean Smith.
Investigators have learned Andre Rose brought the firearm into the jail during a Monday arrest. Rose had been arrested on marijuana possession charges following a traffic stop by Suwanee police, Smith said.
"The weapon was located before it was introduced into the inmate housing population," Smith said.
Smith said investigators have found that the handgun was stolen.
In addition to drug charges and traffic citations, Rose is charged with felony counts of theft by receiving stolen property and crossing the guard line with a weapon, along with a misdemeanor charge of carrying a deadly weapon.
Smith said an investigation into the incident is ongoing.

Suwanee Police obviously only paid attention in the police academy when the topic writing speeding tickets came up. Aren't they supposed to search these people before they haul them to jail?
