LILBURN -- Three teens have been charged with tagging a Gwinnett County high school with gang-related graffiti this month, but only one is in custody, officials said Friday.
On March 16, the vandals spray painted graffiti related to the "Pirus" street gang in several areas of Berkmar High School in Lilburn. Investigators believe the damage was done between 3 and 8 p.m. on that Friday, according to a Gwinnett County School police report.
The affected areas included a student restroom in the back of the school, outdoor trailer classrooms, along with stairwells and hallways, the report states.
School police photographed and removed the graffiti Monday and began an investigation.
Three suspects -- one juvenile and two adults -- have been charged with damaging the school. Only the juvenile, who was not identified, was in custody Friday, said Gwinnett Public Schools spokesman Jorge Quintana.
School police have issued warrants for the others. They are both 17-year-old non-students, Quintana said.
The Pirus street gang has roots in the Compton area of Los Angeles, where the name is synonymous with being a member of the Bloods gang, according to the Street Gang Resource Center.
