LOGANVILLE -- A late-night fire that destroyed a vacant mobile in the 700 block of Athens Highway near Loganville is under investigation, officials said Friday.
Crews arrived at 11:52 p.m. Thursday to find the single-wide trailer ablaze and brought it under control in about 30 minutes. The dwelling was vacant at the time, with no utility services, said Fire Department spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly.
No injuries were reported, but officials said the home is a total loss. Authorities have not been able to contact the out-of-state owner, Eberly said.
The cause of the fire is under investigation.
In a separate incident Friday morning, fire crews tackled a small fire at the Marquecs Estates apartments near Norcross.
A Gwinnett police officer on patrol noticed the fire at the complex, which sits at Graves Road and Downing Lane, and called it in at 6:12 a.m.
"While fire units were responding to the scene, the (officer) with other arriving (police) units had evacuated the building residents," Eberly said.
Fire crews arrived to find smoke and fire pushing out of one lower-level unit in the two-story, wood-frame apartment building. Crews entered the unit and quickly controlled a small fire, Eberly said.
The apartment was found to be unoccupied and under renovation at the time of the fire. No other damage was noted to any of the adjoining units. The exact cause of the fire is under investigation, Eberly said.
No injuries were reported, and no tenants were displaced.
