Mrs. Hazel Holland Maddox, age 83, of Dacula, GA and the Hog Mountain Community passed away on Tuesday, March 20, 2012. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Russell Scott Maddox; parents, Estus and Ida Leach Holland; and brothers, Harold Holland and Lewis Holland. She is survived by her husband of sixty-four years, Holland “T-Model” Maddox, Dacula, GA; son and daughter-in-law, Larry and Jackie Maddox, Buford, GA; granddaughters, Yvette Lowe and husband, Russell Lowe, Auburn, AL and Kelly Hensley and husband, Anthony Hensley, Buford, GA; great granddaughters, Annelise Lowe, Molly Lowe and Ella Pierce Hensley; sisters-in-law, Mary Maddox Phillips, Toccoa, GA and Bell Elinburg Maddox, Baldwin, GA; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Maddox was born July 11, 1928 in the Hog Mountain Community. She was a 1946 graduate of Dacula High School. She was a homemaker. Hazel’s father, a songwriter and Gwinnett County shape-note singing school teacher, would lead the music and teach at area churches. Hazel began accompanying her father at age nine. Hazel was the assistant pianist at Duncan Creek Congregational Church. She enjoyed gospel music. She shared her talent of singing and playing the piano for local churches when requested. She was a long time active member of Duncan Creek Congregational Church for sixty years and where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class. She was a very devoted wife, mother, mother-in-law, grandmother and great grandmother and adored her family very much. She will be greatly missed by her family, friends and church family. Funeral services will be held on Friday, March 23, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Duncan Creek Congregational Church, 3868 Braselton Highway, Buford, GA 30519 with Rev. James Dee Dillin officiating. Interment and Graveside Service will follow in the Duncan Creek Congregational Church Cemetery with Rev. Ricky Swancey officiating.
