The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo Blu-ray (R)
Movie: 3 stars out of 4
Disc: 3 stars out of 4
Inexplicably derided by fans of the book and lovers of the Swedish version, this adaptation from director David Fincher and writer Steve Zaillian is far more faithful to the late Stieg Larsson's novel than its predecessor. Many were afraid that, in an attempt to appeal to more easily-upset American audiences, Fincher would sanitize and/or tone down the more depraved aspects of the narrative, but that is simply not the case. This is a disturbing film and Fincher -- as he did with "Fight Club," Zodiac" and "Se7en" -- never once softens its raw power and twisted jagged edge.
