DULUTH -- During its annual board elections, the Credit Union National Association recently named Mike Mercer as chairman of the trade group. Mercer is president/CEO of Georgia Credit Union Affiliates.
For more than two decades, he has represented the interests of credit unions on the state, national and international levels as well as being actively engaged in regional and international cooperative efforts.
"I've known Mike for many years and have worked very closely with him on several critical advocacy efforts that have benefitted credit unions," said CUNA President/CEO, Bill Cheney. "His leadership skills are second to none, and his broad insight into the needs of credit unions and their members makes him an excellent choice to lead the CUNA board. I'm proud to serve under his leadership."
Lilburn has top McDonald's manager
LILBURN -- Gwinnett County is home to one of the nation's top McDonald's restaurant managers.
Jenny Menes recently received the Ray Kroc Award, an annual performance-based honor recognizing the top performing McDonald's restaurant managers in the country.
Named after McDonald's Corporation founder Ray Kroc, the award was established in 1999 to honor hardworking restaurant managers--those who make Ray Kroc's "vision of excellence come to life in restaurants and for customers each day."
A select 142 managers nationwide were chosen in 2012 to receive the award, an honor that comes with a cash prize, a Ray Kroc Award trophy and a trip to Chicago for an awards gala April 3 hosted by McDonald's USA President Jan Fields.
Archer High School hosts Globetrotters, NBA Legends
LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Archer Academic Foundation is presenting a Celebrity Hoops basketball event featuring the Harlem Globetrotters and NBA Legends at 3 p.m. Sunday in the Archer High School gym.
Proceeds from the fundraiser will benefit the Archer Academic Foundation. The foundation provides grants to teachers in the Archer school cluster and scholarships to students at Archer High School.

Brian Jordan comes to Buford
BUFORD -- Professional baseball and NFL star Brian Jordan will be signing copies of his children's books at the Books for Less in Buford, including "I Told You I Can Play," "Overcoming the Fear of Baseball," and his newest release, "Time-Out for Bullies."
Jordan will be at the store from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday.
"We are very pleased to host Mr. Jordan at our store," said Bryan Mason, owner. "And we're very excited about what he is doing to motivate kids through the medium of books."
Books for Less is located at 2815 Buford Drive.
