DULUTH -- Police have arrested a Covington man accused of raping an "acquaintance" earlier this month at Wild Bill's night club in Duluth.
According to a Gwinnett County police report obtained by the Daily Post, an off-duty officer was working part-time at the club near Interstate 85 and Pleasant Hill Road early in the morning of March 3 when a friend of the alleged victim approached him and said the woman "had been attacked."
The alleged victim, a 23-year-old from Jackson, later told the officer "she was forcibly raped by an acquaintance." The incident occurred around 1:30 a.m., according to reports.
An initial search of the alleged crime scene found no physical evidence, the officer wrote.
Gwinnett County police issued arrest warrants for the suspect, 29-year-old Joseph Thomas Yarbrough of Covington, last Friday. He was arrested Monday and charged with one count of rape, jail records show.
Yarbrough is being held without bond.
A Wild Bill's representative with knowledge of the situation could not be reached for comment Tuesday. One spokeswoman said it was possible the club had not been informed of the accusations.
According to a calendar listing, country music singer Gretchen Wilson performed at the club the night of the incident.
No further details were available from police Tuesday.
