ATLANTA (AP) -- The Senate Appropriations Committee has approved the proposed $19.2 billion budget for the upcoming fiscal year.
The fiscal year 2013 budget cleared the House earlier this month. The full Senate is expected to vote on the budget on Wednesday. Per the state Constitution, the General Assembly must pass a balanced budget during the legislative session.
The proposed budget reflects Gov. Nathan Deal's cautious optimism as the state continues its recovery from a deep recession that drove down tax collections and required billions of dollars in spending cuts.
It is a slight increase over the current year budget. The 2013 fiscal year begins July 1.
