Grayson reappoints Schroeder as mayor pro-tem

GRAYSON -- The Grayson City Council made several appointments here Monday night, including the reappointment of Councilman David Schroeder as mayor pro-tem.

Schroeder also was named as city council representative on the Downtown Development Authority, succeeding Councilwoman Allison Wilkerson. Dave Sitz also replaces Eddie Russell on the DDA panel.

Other reappointments include: David Elrod and James Gillespie on the Planning and Zoning Commission; Leonard Smith and Burton May (alternate) on the Code Enforcement Board; and Barbara Hinkle, director of the Arts & History Center.

In other business, the Council:

... Approved the low bids of W.L. Clinton Company, Allgood Construction and B&B Painting for outside finish work on the 438 Building in Grayson.

... Approved the fifth and final payment of $2,800 to Partnership Gwinnett, an economic development organization which works to retain, expand, and leverage existing business in the county.

... Honored the Girls Scouts of the U.S. for its 100th year anniversary. The organization, started in Savannah by Juliet Gordon Lowe, boasts 2.3 million members in the country.

... Proclaimed March as Red Cross month, noting that this organization supplies about one-half of the country's blood.

... Proclaimed April 25 as Parental Alienation Awareness Day. Mayor Jim Hinkle's proclamation said this day's message states that children should give and receive love from their parents without having to hear negative comments.
