NORCROSS -- Firefighters were able to rescue two dogs from a fire at a Norcross apartment Thursday night, but one is not expected to survive its injuries, officials said.
Gwinnett County firefighters responded to the Barrington Hills apartments on Chelsea Park Lane at about 6:10 p.m., finding smoke coming from a lower-level apartment, spokesman Lt. Eric Eberly said. Crews quickly controlled the blaze that turned out to be a kitchen fire. It caused moderate damage to the apartment, Eberly said.
Firefighters also pulled two dogs from the apartment.
"One was cared for at the scene and delighted with all the attention by firefightes," Eberly said.
The second, however, was treated before being rushed to a nearby animal hospital. It is not expected to survive its injuries, officials said.
No other injuries were reported. A single male resident was displaced.
