Receiving much deserved acclaim but few actual industry awards, Alexander Payne's bittersweet movie features the best performance yet from George Clooney as a wealthy Hawaiian lawyer who must deal with a comatose wife, two headstrong daughters and an extended family dependant on his decision involving a huge real estate deal. As with all of Payne's films, the comedy is sharp and dark and is complimented by deeply moving drama that never tries to hard and always hits home.
