GAB: Georgia SPCA clinic is Saturday

SUWANEE -- The Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals is having a vaccination clinic on Saturday. Along with the vaccination clinic, the organization is having a sale at its thrift shop.

All proceeds from both events will go to help find a home for homeless animals. The Georgia SPCA has placed 250 animals in 2012.

The vaccinations clinic is scheduled for 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday.

Canine and feline rabies shots are $10; canine and feline distemper shots, $10; canine bordetella shots, $10; canine heartworm test, $25; microchip, $25; combo test, $25; nail clipping, $10.

Religious event planned

NORCROSS -- "What Happened to the Second Coming of the Messiah" is scheduled for 2:30 to 4 p.m. Saturday at the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, 6113 Oakbrook Parkway, Norcross.

Children’s cancer fundraiser planned

DULUTH -- "Let's Zap Kids' Cancer!" a laser tag fundraiser is scheduled from 6 to 9 p.m. Thursday at 1866 Buford Highway, Duluth.

Tickets are $25 and include food, laser tag, games, prizes and more.

When supporters purchase a ticket, $5 of each ticket will be donated to the St. Baldrick's Foundation, a volunteer-driven organization that funds childhood cancer research grants.

No doubt they do fantastic work, but when it costs $250 to adopt a dog from the SPCA, I think their priorities need to be re- examined. Last time I was there, the receptionist was telling someone that they were full and pretty much stayed full. Then I saw the costs for adopting an animal posted on the wall and thought... Well, no wonder!! I wouldn't adopt from here either.
