SAVANNAH, Ga. (AP) -- Savannah's mayor says she got to lobby President Barack Obama for his support on deepening the city's bustling seaport.
Mayor Edna Jackson was among 14 city leaders who met with Obama on Monday in Washington, where they're attending a conference of the National League of Cities.
Jackson says the meeting gave her a chance to tell Obama that Savannah needs a deeper harbor in order to add jobs at its container port, the fourth-busiest in the U.S.
Georgia port officials say the Savannah River needs to be six feet deeper to accommodate supersized cargo ships expected via an expanded Panama Canal in 2014.
Obama included $2.8 million for the project in his proposed budget last month, a figure far short of the $105 million Georgia officials had hoped to receive.

Dear Edna, By making the river deeper, the American people would have a chance to prosper. I was elected to hold Americans back. To destroy the middle class and to go back to the haves and have nots. That is what I wrote in my books about doing and the American people agreed by electing me. So even though I take money from those who worked for it and give it to those who don't, I cannot give you any money. Because working people would earn a living. If everyone earned a living, they wouldn't need the government handouts anymore. Why would people vote form me and my democratic buddies again if you didn't need my handouts. You think about that the next time you come up with a hairbrain idea to put people to work.
Sincerely, President Barack Hussien Obama

@Toby - Just accused the President of everything the Republicans swore they would do to limit Obama to one term. Toby is typical of those who've taken everything and then blame the half not for demanding better treatment.
Most poor people work - Fact Toby More working people are becoming poor. - Fact Toby 80% of the income goes to less than 10% of the people. - Fact Toby
Toby makes accusations without any facts.
