ATLANTA (AP) -- Atlanta Mayor Kasim Reed says a new international terminal at the city's airport will open May 16.
Reed made the announcement Tuesday, after a recent court decision involving airport concession contracts. City officials say a judge's decision to deny an injunction involving concession contracts allows the city to move forward with opening the terminal May 16.
Reed called the opening date a major milestone for Hartsfield-Jackson Atlanta International Airport, the world's busiest.
The mayor said the new Maynard H. Jackson Jr. International Terminal will strengthen Atlanta's economy and tourism business.
Construction of the new terminal and its 12-gate concourse began in summer 2008. The facility connects with the existing international concourse.
