LAWRENCEVILLE -- A believed grenade discovered by a passerby Monday evening turned out to be a false alarm, police said.
Gwinnett police responded to the Lawrenceville intersection of Woodhaven Downs and Ga. Highway 20 -- not far from Taylor Elementary School -- Monday after resident walking by located what he and authorities thought may have been a grenade.
It turned out to be a false alarm.
"The device was a fake and it does not appear to have been placed intentionally," police spokesman Cpl. Jake Smith said.
