The Skin I Live In — Blu-ray (R)
Movie: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
Disc: 3 1/2 out of 4 stars
Although not even nominated, Pedro Almodovar's "The Skin I Live In" should have won this year's Oscar for Best Foreign Language Film. Using "Frankenstein" as his initial palate, Almodovar mixes in some Hitchcock, a little Kubrick and a lot of his own color-saturated back catalogue and comes up with a brilliant, yet squirm-inducing mystery thriller that messes with one's mind on every level. Everyone in the sparse cast shines, but none more so than Antonio Banderas as a renowned plastic surgeon with a God complex who in every possible way oversteps his bounds.
Technical specs: aspect ratio: Widescreen (1080p/1.85:1), audio: Spanish and French (5.1 DTS-HD MA), subtitles: English and French.
Special features include:
-- Feature-length "An Evening with Almodovar" Q&A
-- Additional DVD disc
