ATLANTA (AP) -- Lawmakers are scrambling to keep their legislation on the agenda for this year's General Assembly on the 30th do-or-die day of the session.
Known as Crossover Day, it is the deadline for lawmakers to get their bills approved by at least one chamber of the Legislature and keep them alive for the 40-day session, with some exceptions.
The House and Senate are set to consider more than 60 bills and resolutions in what is expected to be a marathon day. Among the issues on the agenda are the state budget, a ban on assisted suicide, new charter school funding, drug testing and community service requirements to receive public assistance, religious exemptions for health care providers on abortion and a ban on certain mass picketing.
