Due to the economic plunge in recent years, the development surrounding Gwinnett Stadium in Lawrenceville came to a halt. Next week, planning commissioners will hear proposals to alter the mixed-use development.

LAWRENCEVILLE -- With community leaders in talks with developers, officials put off for a month a decision on changes to the planned development around the Gwinnett Braves stadium.

On Wednesday, the Gwinnett Planning Commission tabled until April 3 two controversial ideas for the once highly praised plans for a mixed-use development around the stadium, located along Ga. Highway 20 between Old Peachtree and Rock Springs roads.

With the economic recession, the development stalled and land owners now hope to change the plans, adding more apartments and decreasing the amount of commercial space.

In a community meeting last week, area resident Paula Hastings said she was concerned the standards would drop and the development would become "apartment city."

Leaders are expecting a large community turnout at the April 3 Planning Commission meeting as well as the April 24 Board of Commissioners session, where a final decision could be made.
