PREP ROUNDUP: Thiel throws two-hitter, fans 14 as Central gets first win

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Grant Thiel tossed a complete-game, two-hitter to lift Central Gwinnett's baseball team to its first win of the season with a 4-1 victory over Columbia on Monday afternoon at home.

Thiel (1-3) gave up just one unearned run and struck out 14 in going the distance, and received offensive support from Eli Vale and Josh Davis, who each went 1-for-3, drove in a run and scored a run. Corey Gray also had a hit for the Black Knights (1-6).

BASEBALL

Duluth 11, Chattahoochee 4

DULUTH -- Clemson signee Zack Erwin had two hits, including a home run, and drove in two runs as the Duluth baseball team blew past the visiting Chattahoochee Cougars 11-4 on Monday at Franklin Field. Chris Rich also homered and drove in two runs as Duluth (4-0) had nine hits on the day. Edward Willemse (1-0) picked up the win on the mound, scattering seven hits and two earned runs and striking out seven in four innings. Austin Riedel pitched the final three shutout innings, giving up just one hit with two strikeouts.

Norcross 9, South Gwinnett 0

NORCROSS -- Joseph Wilber threw a three-hit shutout as the Norcross baseball team downed South Gwinnett 9-0 on Monday at home. Wilber struck out 10, walked just one and hit a batter over seven innings, while Tanner Maloof and Andrew Gray each had two hits and an RBI for Norcross (1-3). Gray's hits included a double.

Peachtree Ridge 14, Rockdale Co. 0

SUWANEE -- Coltan Ramsey and Ryne Inman combined for a no-hitter, while Peachtree Ridge's baseball team (2-3) pounded out 11 hits in routing visiting Rockdale County 14-0 in five innings on Monday. Ramsey (1-1) struck out seven batters in four innings, while Inman pitched the final inning, striking out the side while pitching around a walk. Cole Rives was 2-for-2 with a double and two RBIs, while Garrett Guy went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBIs, Tyler Haswell had a triple with two RBIs and Anthony Perez had a triple and drove in three runs.

Brookwood 4, McEachern 3

POWDER SPRINGS -- Jordan Dykes (1-0) threw 1 shutout innings out of the bullpen and struck out three as No. 3 state-ranked Brookwood (2-0) rallied late to beat the host McEachern Indians 4-3 on Monday. Blake Schuck retired McEachern in order in the seventh, including a strikeout, to record his first save of the season. Michael Gouge had a hit and two RBIs to lead the Brookwood offense, while Ryan Woodard and Clint Carr each went 2-for-3, Lucas Sims had a hit and drove in a run and Cedric Mullins went 1-for-2.

Dacula 6, Winder-Barrow 3

WINDER -- Tyler Crumley went 2-for-3 with two RBIs, while Michael Barnes and Morgan Loyd added two hits apiece as the Dacula baseball team got its first win of the season in beating the host Winder-Barrow Bulldoggs 6-3 on Monday. Barnes also added an RBI, while Dustin Seiber went 1-for-1, including a sacrifice bunt and sacrifice fly, and drove in a run. Dylan Brown (1-1) scattered three hits and no earned runs with four strikeouts over three innings, while Travis Vanderhorst earned his first save of the season, giving up just one hit and no earned runs over three innings for Dacula (1-5).

BOYS SOCCER

GAC 7, Maynard Jackson 0

NORCROSS -- Cameron Johnson and Max Gomas each tallied two goals as third-ranked Greater Atlanta Christian (5-2, 3-0) rolled past Maynard Jackson 7-0 in Area 6-AA boys soccer on Monday. Grant Griffin, Nate Ream and Vishal Patel also added a goal apiece for GAC.

GIRLS SOCCER

GAC 10, Maynard Jackson 0

NORCROSS -- Rachel Garcia had a hat trick and added an assist as the Greater Atlanta Christian girls soccer team routed visiting Maynard Jackson 10-0 on Monday. Kayla Puzas had two goals and an assist, while Jamie Campbell added two goals as No. 2 GAC improved to 6-0 overall and 3-0 in Area 6-AA play. Danielle Marcano, Rachel Pew and Halle Huff also scored a goal each, while Taylor Wagnon doled out three assists and Elizabeth White posted the shutout in goal.

BOYS GOLF

Grayson 153, Providence 167

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Patrick Dreher shot a 2-over par 37 to help the Providence boys golf team past the Grayson Rams by 14 strokes Monday at Northwood Country Club. Jeb Britt matched Dreher's score of 37 to lead Grayson.

Mill Creek 165, Duluth 220

DACULA -- Brian Kim and Dylan Pence each carded a round of 2-over 38 to lead the Mill Creek boys golf team to a 35-stroke win over the Duluth Wildcats on Monday at Hamilton Mill Golf Club. Sean Derossett was Duluth's low medalist with a round of 47.

GAC 174, Wesleyan 182

DULUTH -- Led by Spencer Cokely's 4-over 40, the Greater Atlanta Christian boys golf team downed Wesleyan by eight strokes Monday at TPC at Sugarloaf. Nick Ross posted Wesleyan's best score of the day with a 43.

GIRLS GOLF

Mill Creek 85, Duluth 86

DACULA -- Mill Creek's Ari Roberts carded a 40 as the Hawks edged Duluth by a single stroke in girls golf Monday at Hamilton Mill Golf Club. Diane Kim shot 41 to lead Duluth.

Peachtree Ridge 39, Brookwood 36

DULUTH -- Sydney Hickman/Jenny Li combined to shoot 20 as the Peachtree Ridge Lions defeated Brookwood's girls golfers 39-36 in a match using a scramble format and the Stableford scoring system on Monday at TPC at Sugarloaf.

GAC finishes second at Carrollton Invitational

CARROLLTON -- Greater Atlanta Christian's Bailey Tardy fired a 3-over 39 to tie for second place individually as the Spartans finished as runners-up in the Carrollton Invitational on Monday. GAC shot 85 to finish just six strokes behind team champion Darlington in the nine-team event.

BOYS TENNIS

Buford 3, Gainesville 2

GAINESVILLE --Paced by victories from Colby West at No. 1 singles and Rob Hunter at No. 2 singles, the Buford boys tennis team (7-0) remained unbeaten by edging the Gainesville Red Elephants 3-2 on Monday at Gainesville. Jabin Stepp and Josh Thompson also won at No. 2 doubles for Buford.

Grayson 5, South Gwinnett 0

SNELLVILLE -- The Grayson boys tennis team swept South Gwinnett 5-0 in a Region 8-AAAAA match Monday at Summit Chase Country Club behind singles wins from Alexander Quinn at No. 1, Parker Evans at No. 2 and Caleb White at No. 3. Matt Bolt and Zack Cavaness also won at No. 1 doubles, while the No. 2 team of Austin Collier and Brady Narey was also victorious for Grayson (4-2, 2-1).

Lanier 3, Mountain View 2

SUGAR HILL -- The Lanier boys tennis team swept the doubles points behind the No. 1 team of Jem Vang and Cullen Moss and the No. 2 team of Sal Rocha and Chris Thai to eke out a 3-2 win over the Mountain View Bears on Monday at home. Kevin Wagner picked up the lone singles point for Lanier (4-3) with a win at No. 2 singles.

GIRLS TENNIS

Gainesville 4, Buford 1

GAINESVILLE -- The Buford girls tennis team (4-3) fell 4-1 to the Gainesville Red Elephants on Monday on the road. Annalea Stevens picked up Buford's lone point with a win at No. 1 singles.

Lanier 3, Mountain View 2

SUGAR HILL -- Wins by Meg McRee at No. 2 singles and Jenna Soucia at No. 3 singles helped propel the Lanier girls tennis team past Mountain View 3-2 on Monday at Lanier. Victoria Inman and Carlie Overley also won for the Longhorns (5-2) at No. 1 doubles.

BOYS LACROSSE

Duluth 13, Parkview 3

LILBURN -- Ben Loyal scored four goals and had two assists, while Brendan Eckard had three goals and two assists and Charlie Hall added three goals and one assist as the Duluth boys lacrosse team took down Parkview 13-3 in Area 4-AAAAA on Monday at the Big Orange Jungle.

Ben James and Mitchell Wright each added his first goal of season for Duluth (4-1, 3-1).
