LAWRENCEVILLE -- Lynn Ledford doesn't know what to predict for Tuesday's primary election.

While about half the people participated in early voting compared to four years ago, that is typical for a presidential primary with a contest in only one party.

"Based on the incumbency, I don't think there will be long lines, but it also depends on how energized voters become between now and 7 p.m. (Tuesday) night," Ledford said.

While Republican candidates have clamored for votes in Gwinnett, with Mitt Romney appearing Sunday and Newt Gingrich stopping by on Super Tuesday, this election is also unique because it has more to attract Democrats to the polls than simply an unopposed vote for Barack Obama for the party's nomination.

Voters throughout Gwinnett will have a say on the Sunday sales of beer and wine in package stores, a matter decided in many local cities last fall. In Buford, residents also have a vote on that issue at City Hall.

While there also is a Loganville-area House seat runoff Tuesday, Ledford said the highest turnout could come in the 13 precincts in the northwestern corner of the county, where Peachtree Corners residents will choose the new city's first council.There are 19 candidates for six council positions, while Mike Mason is unopposed to become the first mayor. A runoff, if needed, is scheduled for April 3.
