BUCHANAN (AP) -- The National Weather Service has confirmed a tornado hit Paulding and Haralson counties.
Weather officials say an EF-3 twister hit Haralson County early Saturday morning, destroying a business, ripping the steeple off a church and downing numerous trees. Officials said they have not yet determined the rating for the tornado that hit Paulding County, where more than 100 homes were destroyed or damaged.
The storm that moved across the southeastern United States also dumped golf ball sized hail in Cobb and Floyd counties.
Friday's violent storms touched down in at least a dozen states, killing 19 people in five states. One of those was 83-year-old Patricia Barnette in Alpharetta, killed when she tried to seek shelter in a storm drain and was washed away by the downpour.
