PREP ROUNDUP: McCarthy's hit gives South win over Wesleyan

SNELLVILLE -- Brandon Matics went six innings to get his second win of the year and Ryan Patterson came on for the save in South Gwinnett's 4-3 win over Wesleyan in baseball on Thursday. Jordan Ramey had a two-out two-RBI double to tie the game at 3-3 and Drew McCarthy gave the Comets (3-2) the lead with a go-ahead single.

BASEBALL

Meadowcreek 9, Cross Keys 0

NORCROSS -- Shea Wilkey tossed a complete-game shutout and also had two hits as Meadowcreek blanked Cross Keys 9-0. Carlton Connell and Chris Custodio had two hits apiece for the Mustangs (3-3).

Habersham Central 1, Lanier 0

MOUNT AIRY -- Michael Diaz, Taylor Grant and T.J. Richards each had a hit in the game, but Lanier dropped a tough 1-0 decision to Habersham Central. Kam Doster took the tough-luck loss for the Longhorns (1-2).

Killian Hill Christian 11, Mountain Area Christian 6

LILBURN -- Killian Hill Christian evened its record at 1-1 as the Cougars rolled past Mountain Area Christian 11-6 in GCAA action. Samuel Winston got the win for Killian Hill by going 2 innings and allowing five runs, but none earned, and striking out six. Winston also went 3-for-4 at the plate. Adam Maeland came on for the save and worked three innings, while allowing just one run, one hit and striking out five. Esai Harmon went 2-for-3 with two doubles and two RBI for Killian Hill and Alex Attebery was 3-for-3 with a solo homer.

BOYS TENNIS

Mill Creek 5, West Forsyth 0

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek swept the singles and doubles en route to a 5-0 win over West Forsyth. Quentin Lavender (No. 1), Adam Gonterman (No. 2) and Tyler Abbott (No. 3) picked up wins in singles, while Brad Adkins and Travis Hayes at No. 1 and J.J. Needham and Jake Foley at No. 2 were victorious in doubles for the Hawks (7-2).

Grayson 4, Dacula 1

DACULA -- Grayson got two wins in singles and a pair of wins in doubles as the Rams defeated Dacula 4-1 in Region 8-AAAAA action. Tommy Lee at No. 2 singles and Caleb White at No. 3 singles took home wins for Grayson (3-2, 1-1) as did Matt Bolt and Parker Evans at No. 1 doubles and Austin Collier and Brady Narey at No. 2 doubles. Matt Nelson got the lone win for Dacula at No. 1 singles.

Central Gwinnett 3, Archer 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Central Gwinnett captured both doubles points and a win at No. 3 singles to edge Archer 3-2 in Region 8-AAAAA action. Chris Morrison and Tyler Nguyen won at No. 1 doubles and David Johnson and Aaron Manelc won at No. 2 doubles for Central (4-3, 2-1). Archer got wins from Aaron Harris at No. 1 singles and Alex Butenko at No. 2 singles.

Buford 4, Providence 1

BUFORD -- Buford swept the singles and also took a win at No. 2 doubles as the Wolves knocked off Providence 4-1. Colby West at No. 1, Rob Hunter at No. 2 and Alex Turner at No. 3 picked up wins in singles, while Josh Thompson and Nicholas Becker won at No. 2 doubles for Buford (6-0). Providence (3-3) got a win from Mike Turner and Taylor McGlophlin at No. 1 doubles.

Hebron 5, Social Circle 0

SOCIAL CIRCLE -- Hebron blanked Social Circle 5-0 in Region 8-A as Jerod Beck (No. 1), Josh Beck (No. 2) and James Everson (No. 3) each picked up singles wins. Justin Scarner and Johnell McLean won at No. 1 doubles and Dino Favara and Austin Dobbs picked up a win at No. 2 doubles for the Lions (3-0, 1-0).

Apalachee 4, Habersham Central 1

MOUNT AIRY -- Apalachee took both doubles matches and also got two wins in singles as the Wildcats defeated Habersham Central 4-1 in Region 8-AAAA North action. Brandon Tovar and Lee Vue won at No. 1 doubles and Dima Sorokopud and Matt Garrett won at No. 2 doubles. Zach Batt picked up a win for Apalachee at No. 2 singles and Clayton Edenfield won at No. 3 singles as the Wildcats improved to 3-1 overall and 1-0 in the subregion.

GIRLS TENNIS

Mill Creek 4, West Forsyth 1

HOSCHTON -- Mill Creek improved to 8-1 overall with a 4-1 win over West Forsyth. Madison Hahn won at No. 1 singles and Lauren Atkinson won at No. 3 singles for the Hawks. Mill Creek also got wins from Cailey Stevens and Mallory Kolts at No. 1 doubles and Natalie Martinez and Madison Walsh at No. 3 doubles.

Archer 3, Central Gwinnett 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Archer got a win at No. 1 singles from Sydnie Madison, No. 2 singles from Kimberly Anderson and No. 2 doubles from Harper Emery and Madison Wyngaert to get past Central Gwinnett 3-2 in Region 8-AAAAA as the Black Knights improved to 3-4 overall and 1-2 in the region. Kathy Nguyen at No. 3 singles and Tanner Moore and Asmoni Simmons-Morris at No. 1 doubles got the wins for Central.

Hebron 5, Social Circle 0

SOCIAL CIRCLE -- Hebron swept singles and doubles in a 5-0 win over Social Circle in Region 8-A. Michelle Kniffen (No. 1), Sara Schmitt (No. 2) and Laura McLear (No. 3) won in singles and Savannah Blalock and Ashley Whitten (No. 1) and Emily Cochran and Abbey Stewart (No. 2) picked up wins in doubles for the Lions (1-4, 1-1).

Providence 3, Buford 2

BUFORD -- Vani Crist and Alex Mele got wins at No. 1 and 3 singles, respectively, while Carly Dubay and Robin Ferris won at No. 2 doubles to lead Providence (5-1) to a 3-2 win over Buford. AnnaLea Stevens won at No. 2 singles, while Savannah Whaley and Reagan Leifson won at No. 1 doubles for Buford (4-2).

Norcross 4, Centennial 1

ROSWELL -- Norcross got wins at No. 2 and 3 singles as well as No. 1 and 2 doubles en route to a 4-1 win over Centennial. Stacy Lackey won at No. 2 singles and Kristie Teoh was victorious at No. 3 singles for Norcross (1-1). Meanwhile, Maria Lackey and Rachel Luttrell won at No. 1 doubles and Amanda Northrup and Michelle Huseonica won at No. 2 doubles for the Blue Devils.

North 4, Parkview 1

LILBURN -- North Gwinnett took all three singles matches and also got a win at No. 2 doubles as the Bulldogs defeated Parkview 4-1. Shannon Bettiol (No. 1), Hannah Serdinia (No. 2) and Isabel Balsavage (No. 3) took home the wins in singles, while Haley Wix and Mimi Zhang teamed up to win at No. 2 doubles for North (2-1).

GIRLS LACROSSE

Collins Hill 15, Archer 1

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Carly Marksberry had four goals and an assist, while Kara Knapik had three goals in Collins Hill's 15-1 win over Archer. Emma Gilbert added two goals and two assists for Collins Hill (2-2) and Anna Britt also had two goals. Michelle Vasques chipped in a goal and an assist for the Eagles.

Grayson 12, Riverwood 8

NORCROSS -- Austyn Gorski had four goals and Anna LaCavera added three goals and three assists in Grayson's 12-8 win over Riverwood. Lyndsay Parris added two goals while goal keeper Taylor Denton had 17 saves for the Rams (4-0).

Peachtree Ridge 25, Norcross 4

NORCROSS -- Michelle Fortier had eight goals and three assists as Peachtree Ridge rolled over Norcross 25-4. Darby Frisbie added five goals and two assists for Peachtree Ridge (3-1), while Rachel Harper had four goals and an assist for the Lions.

GAC 11, Tri-Cities 5

NORCROSS -- Meghan Greathouse had five goals and Kayla Jolly added two goals and an assist in GAC's 11-5 win over Tri-Cities. Liz Calhoun, Abby Gipson and Kylie Reynolds also had a goal each for GAC (2-1).

BOYS LACROSSE

GAC 13, South Forsyth 0

CUMMING -- Eric Reynolds had five goals and an assist as GAC shutout South Forsyth 13-0. Whit Anderson added three goals and three assists for GAC (3-0) whle Sam Harte had two goals and an assist. Gunner Cape, Britt Kennedy and Courtland Jones each added a goal for the Spartans while goal keeper Stewart Butler recorded five saves.

Duluth 13, McEachern 6

DULUTH -- Brendan Eckard had three goals and four assists to lead Duluth to a 13-6 win over McEachern. Zack Consie added three goals and two assists, while Wes Ramon and Ben Loyal each had three goals and Charlie Hall had one goal for the Wildcats (3-1).

Collins Hill 19, Archer 2

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Holin Axley, Connor Pittman and Ryan Flores each had three goals as Collins Hill defeated Archer 19-2. Tyler Agee and Lou Schreckenberger added two goals each for the Eagles (2-2).

Collins Hill slips past Mountain View

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Collins Hill got a 51 from Ellen Min in a 107-115 win over Mountain View at Collins Hill Golf Course. Hanna Magda led Mountain View with a 49 while Kaylee Hennelly had a 53.

Archer gets by Central

WINDER -- Morganne Gregory had a 34 as Archer got by Central Gwinnett 77-102 in a match shortened to seven holes due to darkness. Sara Futch had a 49 for Central Gwinnett (0-2) at the Chimneys Golf Course.

North Gwinnett defeats Lanier

SUWANEE -- Jessica Choi and Rachel Gill both carded a 33 as North Gwinnett defeated Lanier 66-93 in a match shortened to seven holes due to darkness at Bear's Best.

Norcross falls to Northview

JOHNS CREEK -- Camille Streeter had a 55 for Norcross, but it wasn't enough as the Blue Devils fell to Northview 100-114 at St. Ives Country Club.

Wesleyan edged by Mount Pisgah

DAWSONVILLE -- Wesleyan fell to Mount Pisgah 84-94 at Crystal Falls Golf Club in a match halted after seven holes due to darkness. Grace Farley and Lindsay Panther both carded a 47 for Wesleyan in the season-opener for the Wolves.

North Gwinnett cruises by Lanier

SUWANEE -- Bailey Ulp had a 38 to lead North Gwinett to a 161-246 win over Lanier at Bear's Best Golf Club. James Hughes led Lanier with a 56.

Collins Hill knocks off Mountain View

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Alex Simpson and Patrick Hilton carded a pair of 41s as Collins Hill defeated Mountain View 173-189 at Collins Hill Golf Course. Cole Parks led Mountain View with a 45 while Jake Myers had a 46.

Norcross clips Northview

JOHNS CREEK -- Zach Healy fired a 33 and Jason Mendel added a 34 and Clay Trocchio a 35 as Norcross (2-1) defeated Northview 147-157 at St. Ives Country Club.

Archer defeats Central

WINDER -- Casey Milewsky and Antonio Chisholm each had a 52 as Archer defeated Central Gwinnett 210-232 at the Chimneys Golf Course. John Dilks had a 52 for Central Gwinnett in the season-opener for the Black Knights.

Providence gets past Hebron

LAWRENCEVILLE -- Patrick Dreher shot a low-round of 37 and Rick Rackley had a 39 as Providence defeated Hebron 164-179 at Northwood Country Club. Casey Price and Phillip Cox each had a 39 for Hebron.

GAC 10, South Atlanta 0

NORCROSS -- Rachel Garcia had three goals and Kayla Puzas and Abbie Abrahart had two goals each in GAC's 10-0 win over South Atlanta in Region 6-AA action.

BUFORD -- Buford got goals from Linsey White, Caitlin Dawkins and Melissa Sullivan in a 3-0 win over North Hall. Liz Watkins and McKennsa Harwood also had one assist each for the Wolves (4-1).

AUGUSTA -- Alexa Allen scored two goals and Jordan Lowery added another as Hebron blanked Aquinas 3-0.
