J.K. Murphy, publisher of the Gwinnett Daily Post, Rockdale Citizen and Newton Citizen
LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett Daily Post Publisher J.K. Murphy will also be publisher of the Rockdale Citizen and Newton Citizen newspapers, Southern Community Newspapers Inc. announced on Thursday.
Murphy, who has worked for the Daily Post since 1998, will maintain offices in all three locations in his role as group publisher. Murphy was executive editor of the Daily Post before being promoted to publisher in 2005.
Alice Queen will continue to serve as executive editor of the Rockdale and Newton papers, devoting her time to those respective newsrooms. Queen has been with the Citizen newspapers since 1995.
"J.K. has done a great job in Gwinnett and will continue to do so with the Rockdale and Newton papers," said Mike Gebhart, executive vice president of SCNI. "With J.K. taking over the publishing duties, Alice Queen will be able to devote her time to continue to make the Citizen papers the best source of local news online and in print in their respective counties."
Murphy is a native of Indiana and a 1980 graduate of Indiana University. He began his newspaper career at the Greensburg (Ind.) Daily News, and was named editor of that paper in 1983. He later moved to The Republic newspaper in Columbus, Ind., where he worked for 13 years, serving as city editor, news editor and managing editor.
"The Post and the Citizens have been sister newspapers for years, so the relationships have been there for a while," Murphy said. "I look forward to working more closely with the Rockdale and Newton staffs."
Murphy and his wife Pam reside in northeast Gwinnett County. They have three adult children and three grandchildren.
In addition to Gwinnett, Rockdale and Newton, SCNI also publishes the Albany Herald, Clayton News-Daily, Henry Daily Herald and Jackson Progress-Argus.
