LAWRENCEVILLE -- Gwinnett police arrested a 42-year-old man on Saturday after a model rocket sparked a brush fire at Alexander Park.
Gwinnett Fire Capt. Eric Eberly said 30 firefighters were needed to contain the fire to about five acres of dense brush on a hilly area. Crews arrived at the scene at 800 Old Snellville Highway at about 4:47 p.m., and the fire was under control at just before 6 p.m., Eberly said.
"The fire was quickly extinguished within an hour without any damage to any structures," said Eberly, who added that no injuries were reported.
Crews were on the scene after 7 p.m. to extinguish hot spots, and the park remained open, Eberly said.
Authorities didn't immediately identify the man who was arrested.
