Peachtree Corners becomes official city with festival

PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Peachtree Corners has a lot to be excited about -- it was voted to become at city in November, selected its first round of City Council members in April and becomes an official city on Sunday.

To celebrate all of the city's accomplishments, the community is coming together for the second annual Peachtree Corners Festival on Saturday and Sunday.

At 7 a.m., athletes and early birds gear up for the 5K and 10K runs through the streets of Peachtree Corners. Both routes travel through Peachtree Parkway, Crooked Creek Road and Spalding Drive with water and ice stops located throughout the courses.

Runners receive a complimentary T-shirt and other free swag at the end of the race and the top runners will take home special rewards.

From 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, a car show will be parked at the festival. The automobiles are judged in classes, like Chevy, Mopar, Ford, BOPC, foreign, truck, Top 10, Top 10 (2000 and newer) and Best of Show. Door prizes and trophies will be given out to the winners by Mayor Mike Mason.

On Sunday, the public is invited to line the streets for the "Founder's Day" parade, which starts at 11 a.m. U.S. Congressman Rob Woodall serves as this year's grand marshal and U.S. Congressman Tom Rice, on behalf of Gov. Nathan Deal, will present the official proclamation declaring Peachtree Corners Gwinnett's newest city.

The heart of the festival is the vendors, who will be selling arts and crafts, homemade apparel, jewelry, bags, purses, candles and everything else under the sun.

Throughout the entire festival, there is live entertainment with the Oswald Brothers Band, The Mixx, Todd Key aka "The Tree Man," Drake Irish Dancers and others. Inflatables, face painting and train rides will be in the kid's area to keep the young ones busy while you go shopping.

If you need nourishment, local restaurants and Atlanta food trucks will be present, including The Crab Bucket, LaNonna's, Dog Days Hot Dogs, Pearson Farms, European Delights, Steak Boy's Inc., Gino's Pizza, Taste Jamaica, Granny's Lemonade, Yummy Concessions LLC and more.
