Gwinnett Daily Post
The International League announced its selections for the upcoming Class AAA All-Star Game and the Gwinnett Braves had two players picked for the game, Ernesto Mejia and Cory Gearrin.
The two G-Braves will represent the IL against a team from the Pacific Coast League on July 11, when the all-star game will be played in Buffalo. The game will be shown live on the MLB Network.
Gomez, the G-Braves' top hitter, was one of 13 players elected for the game via fan voting after an impressive start this season. The slugger has team bests with a .311 batting average, .550 slugging percentage, 15 home runs, 52 RBIs and 20 doubles.
Gearrin was selected to the pitching staff because of a strong first half out of the G-Braves' bullpen. He is 3-0 with a 1.34 ERA, seven saves and 45 strikeouts (to just 12 walks) in 25 appearances.
Former G-Braves slugger Mauro Gomez, who wasn't re-signed by the team and is now with the Pawtucket Red Sox, also was one of the fan-elected players. He has a .304 average with 16 homers and 50 RBIs this season.
