-- Atmosphere: The outside of Dog Days has flowers and plants on the railings and colorful vintage chairs, but the inside is where the party lies. Owners Greg Vizzini and Todd Edge have collected knickknacks and memorabilia from the '60s, '70s and '80s to decorate the restaurant with.

There are original concert posters for The Doors, The Rolling Stones and Janis Joplin, Chicago Bulls swag and fun trinkets from your childhood.

"(The decor) sparks different things with different people," said Edge.

Vizzini added, "I like to go to places that when you're waiting for your food, you can look around."

And there is plenty to look at.

In the additional dining room, there are extra tables, glass bottles and colorful walls.

"You know, there are places where you want to eat and get the heck out," Vizzini said. "Well here, there are a lot of people who like to linger after their meal."

Guests are known to read on their Kindle, play on their iPad or relax after meals. Some people even come to the restaurant for meetings.

Lunch is usually busy. If you want to miss the crowd, try the eatery at dinner time.

-- Menu: In the '80s, Vizzini owned a hot dog shop in Marietta. Decades later, he and Edge traveled throughout the U.S. tasting and sampling franks for new ideas and the perfect combinations. The menu is a mishmash of both experiences.

The dishes consists of traditional dogs like chili cheese dogs and the Chicago dog, but they also offer a macaroni and cheese dog, chipotle ranch dog and nacho dog.

No dog is set in stone, though. You can make any creation you want from the selection of toppings.

"We give them ideas and they can build their sandwich or dog from there -- bacon, cheese, homemade onions, anything," said Vizzini.

Another thing that is very popular on the menu is another Chicago classic: Italian beef.

"People drive up from the airport, Decatur and Alpharetta for our Italian beef," said Vizzini.

Dog Days serves Angus beef burgers with the same selection of non-traditional toppings and many sides, including baked beans, homemade coleslaw, macaroni and cheese, onion rings, french fries, tater tots and homemade potato chips.
