DULUTH -- We've all traveled before, whether it was across the state line to see our families or over oceans to see exotic lands and just in time for the busiest travel season, Live Arts Theatre presents "Secrets Every Smart Traveler Should Know" at New Dawn Theater this weekend. Everyone can empathize with this musical.
"My father was a travel agent, so I could really relate to all the crazy stories," said director Michael Parker.
And anyone who has traveled will understand the crazy situations as the cast tries to make their way to their desired destinations.
"What is great about the show is that it's entertaining and clever," said musical director Barbara Macko. "There are so many little musical jokes and funny moments that everyone can really relate to."
The audience watches as people find themselves battling the clerk at the car rental counter, grumbling about lost luggage, avoiding hellish children and wondering if they left something behind, plus more.
Based on the Fodor's travel guide of the same name, the show features songs and sketches by Douglas Bernstein, Francesca Blumenthal, Michael Brown, Barry Creyton, Lesley Davison, Addy Fieger, Stan Freeman, Dave Frishberg, Murray Grand, Glen Kelly, Jay Leonhart, Denis Markell and Nick Santa Maria.
"The audience will find themselves humming songs as they walk out of the theater," said Macko.
Due to some adult themes, children under 8 years old aren't recommended to attend the show.
