Collins Hill quarterback Brett Sheehan's favorite target last season was Nick England.
England signed with Florida International in February, but the duo will be teammates again soon.
After taking a visit to FIU over the weekend, Sheehan committed to the Miami school on Wednesday.
"They really wanted me to commit while I was down there," Sheehan said. "I came home and the more and more I thought about it, it seemed like the right choice."
Sheehan chose FIU over offers from Georgia State and South Alabama.
"I visited Georgia, Clemson, Georgia Tech, Middle Tennessee," Sheehan said. "Georgia and Clemson's facilities are top of the line. When I went to FIU, the weight room is what stood out to me."
The Sheehan to England connection last season is was promoted interest from FIU.
"They watched his tape and saw the guy throwing the ball to him and asked about my film," Sheehan said.
Sheehan threw for 1,157 yards, 11 touchdowns and 3 interceptions last year in seven games. He led the Eagles to a fourth-straight playoff appearance, losing to eventual state champion Grayson in the first round.
Sheehan said if it wasn't for England, he probably wouldn't have considered the South Florida school.
"It played a big role," Sheehan said. "FIU is a great school, but going down there by myself I would have been a little hesitant. But with Nick down there, it made me more comfortable."
Sheehan maintains a 3.2 GPA and plans to major in Exercise Science.
"I decided I'd rather get it out the way and focus on my senior year," Sheehan said. "After I went down there I felt like there was no reason to wait. I felt like it was a good decision."
