NORCROSS — Police say the middle man in a botched drug deal Thursday night came to his end after the suspects who bought cocaine from him decided they were unhappy with the product.
Gwinnett County Police found Ulice Leatherberry, 40, dead from gun shot wounds at about 11:30 p.m. Thursday near the 3300 block of Hidden Cove Circle in unincorporated Norcross.
“The investigation revealed that the victim had facilitated a drug deal earlier in the day,” said Cpl. Jake Smith. “The victim had traveled to Atlanta with the suspects to complete the deal, then returned to his home on Hidden Cove Circle.”
Smith said the suspects “were not satisfied with the drugs they had purchased and attempted to get their money back from the victim.”
As the middle-man, Leatherberry was unable to return their money, Smith said. At about 11:30 p.m. Leatherberry fled his apartment and tried to evade the suspects. They caught up with him in the parking lot and fired several rounds at him, Smith said. He was struck and killed by one of the shots.
Smith said detectives are actively working leads in the case and not currently releasing information about the suspects.
