LAWRENCEVILLE -- The elderly Lawrenceville man accused of killing his wife earlier this year was indicted this week in Gwinnett County Superior Court.
A grand jury indicted Alex Blatt, 70, on charges of murder and felony murder, as well as three counts of aggravated assault. Police testified in his March probable cause hearing that Blatt bound his 62-year-old wife, Eva, with duct tape in their bedroom and bashed her to death with a black marble statueete.
Authorities were originally called to the couple's Summerfield Way home on March 19 by a friend who was concerned because they had missed a meeting. They found Alex Blatt in a bathroom and originally thought he was dead.
They soon found Eva and a note that read: "I killed Eva. I must be crazy. I must kill myself. How?"
Alex Blatt struggled with mental health issues, and was committed to Peachford Hospital in Atlanta for psychiatric care just a few weeks prior to his alleged crime. He reportedly confessed murdering his wife to nurses during a four-day stay at Gwinnett Medical Center, while recovering from his own attempted suicide.
