Thin Ice Blu-ray (R)
Movie: 3 stars out of 4
Disc: 4 stars out of 4
"Thin Ice" is a textbook example of what can and will go inevitably wrong when a studio absconds with a filmmaker's intended movie and edits it to pieces. Director Jill Sprecher and her co-writer sister Karen had won raves at multiple 2011 festivals with "The Convincer." It was summarily purchased by Fox who then retitled it, cut 30 minutes, eliminated entire key characters and ditched the narration. Fox somewhat makes up for their monumental gaff by including the uncut, unedited "The Convincer" and it is a great film. Imagine "Fargo" by way of "The Office." Save yourselves some time, skip the "Thin Ice" feature and go straight to the bonus features disc.
