PEACHTREE CORNERS -- Business people applying for permits to open new establishments in Peachtree Corners say the process has been frozen, putting them in financial jeopardy.
Sheri Snyder said she quit her job, cashed in her retirement fund and sank everything into her new art gallery and studio, but she won't be able to open it now because of a moratorium on new business licenses in Peachtree Corners.
May 1 was the start of the two-month license freeze until the city officially begins business July 1.
Peachtree Corners Attorney Bill Riley said the moratorium is designed to keep undesirable businesses out of the new community.
Voters in November approved a ballot measure creating the new city, which will include about 38,000 residents.
