LAWRENCEVILLE -- A teacher with Rockdale County Public Schools faces vehicular homicide charges in the death of an 80-year-old Lawrenceville man, officials said.
Loganville resident Laura Daniel, 31, is charged with misdemeanor vehicular homicide in a two-car collision the afternoon of June 4 at the intersection of Ga. Highway 124 and Ga. Highway 20 in Lawrenceville, police said. She was also cited for failure to obey a traffic control device.
Driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey, Daniel allegedly failed to stop at a red light and struck a 2005 Dodge Neon driven by David Skelley. Skelley was the only person injured, according to a police report.
Lawrenceville police spokesman Capt. Greg Vaughn said Monday that a study by the department's accident investigation unit is ongoing.
Laura was arrested and released from the Gwinnett County Jail on Wednesday, where she put up $7,000 security bond, records show. She is employed as an English teacher at Heritage High School in Conyers, said Cindy Ball, Rockdale County Public Schools spokeswoman.
According to his obituary, Skelley was a U.S. Air Force veteran who leaves behind 23 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren. Funeral services for Skelley were held Friday.
