SUWANEE -- A propeller plane, sans propeller, sat all week on stage in the Shadowbrook Baptist Church sanctuary.

Phil Burgess, who works in maintenance at the church, donated it to the church's Vacation Bible School event, which helped illustrate the VBS theme: Amazing Wonders.

Shadowbrook held one of its summer traditions last week, and leaders of the event reported more than 430 kids attended each day, on average, and the event had about 200 volunteers of all ages. The main scripture for the week was Psalm 147:5, and Richie Sissom, associate pastor for music and worship, said the theme was to explain, "how amazing (Jesus) is, and how awesome he is over creation."

Jeff Sorrow, Shadowbrook's minister to children, said the main goal for VBS is for each child to have a relationship with Jesus Christ by the end of the week.

"This is our biggest outreach to the community that we do," Sorrow said. "That's kind of our M.O.: Connect to the community through Christ."

An offering collected from the event was donated to a church in Costa Rica that Shadowbrook members have established a mission relationship with, and visited earlier this year to help build a daycare. Another portion of the offering was donated to Phoenix Community Church in Buford.
