LAWRENCEVILLE -- Officials with the Gwinnett Coalition's Great Days of Service 2012 recently honored Asia Aaron of Meadowcreek Elementary School for her winning entry in the organization's T-Shirt design contest.
Continuing the theme from 2011, "Caring Hearts. Helping Hands," Great Days of Service partnered with Gwinnett County Public Schools to find this year's budding artist to create the new T-Shirt design.
Students were asked to brainstorm and do several sketches on the theme. Aaron's art teacher, Purna Aruja, said the young girl was diligent in her approach.
"Asia continued to come to my class every morning and wanted to produce several variations on the idea," Aruja said. "I am not surprised that one of her ideas was chosen as the winning design."
It's the second year that Great Days of Service has partnered with Gwinnett County Public Schools to create the T-Shirt artwork.
"The School system is such an integral part of Great Days of Service that they were the perfect fit for our initiative," said Regina Vella, chair of the Gwinnett Great Days of Service.
Gwinnett Great Days of Service is an annual event that promotes volunteerism across the county. It draws tens of thousands of volunteers each year to give back to their communities through community service projects and sponsorship.
Gwinnett Great Days of Service will take place on Oct. 5-6. For more information, visit www.gwinnettgreatdaysofservice.org.
