Lilburn cops raising funds for Special Olympics

LILBURN — Lilburn police officers will post up at a local Krispy Kreme this weekend, indulging an old stereotype for a good cause.

During the store’s business hours (7 a.m. to 9 p.m.) on Friday, Saturday and Sunday, officers will participate in the department’s “Cops on a Donut Shop” fundraiser at the Krispy Kreme located at 4129 U.S. Highway 78. All of the proceeds will go toward sponsoring Special Olympics athletes, Lilburn police spokesman Capt. Ben Haynes said.

There are nearly 25,000 Special Olympics athletes in Georgia, Haynes said, and the average cost to sponsor one is $128.

Donations can be made via cash, check or credit card.

“Please come by and see these cops and make a donation to the athletes of Special Olympics Georgia,” Haynes said.
