BIG CABIN, Okla. (AP) — The Oklahoma Highway Patrol says a Dacula man has died after his car veered off the Will Rogers Turnpike and landed in a pond in northeastern Oklahoma.
Troopers say 82-year-old Carl McElhaney was driving east on the turnpike in Craig County when the crash happened Saturday. Authorities say McElhaney's car left the road, crashed through a fence and went airborne after driving up an embankment.
Authorities say the car eventually landed upside down in a pond. Four people who witnessed the crash helped pull McElhaney from his car.
McElhaney was taken to a Tulsa hospital where he later died. Authorities are investigating why McElhaney's car drove off the road.
