STONE MOUNTAIN -- An 11-year-old girl hospitalized with a severe head injury after colliding with a car on her bicycle is expected to survive, police said Monday.
The girl, who has not been identified, was riding her bike on Eldonlas Court near Stone Mountain on Friday evening when she left her driveway and entered the road. Authorities believe an oncoming car was able to stop, but not before the girl struck the side of the vehicle.
She was transported to the hospital with a "severe" head injury, police said. She was not wearing a helmet.
"It sounds like the girl will survive her injuries, so we won't likely receive any more updates on her condition," said Cpl. Jake Smith on Monday.
The driver of the vehicle was not charged.
