STONE MOUNTAIN -- An 11-year-old Stone Mountain girl sustained a severe head injury Friday after she hit a car while riding her bicycle.
The girl, whose name was not released, was riding her bike on Eldonlas Court at about 6:20 p.m. Friday when she left her driveway and entered the road. Authorities believe an oncoming car was able to stop, but the girl struck the side of the vehicle, Gwinnett County police spokesman Ofc. Jeffery Richter said.
The girl was not wearing a helmet, Richter said. She was transported to the hospital with a "severe" head injury. Specific updates on her condition were not available Saturday.
The driver of the vehicle has not been charged in the incident, Richter said.
