SUGAR HILL -- The 7-year-old boy who drowned in Cumming on Sunday was a second-grader at Sugar Hill Elementary.

Stephon Tyrique Alston was reportedly playing in the pool at his father's Cumming apartment Sunday afternoon when, according to Forsyth County officials, the father "left the pool area to go to the restroom." When he returned Stephon was at the bottom of the pool.

The drowning is under investigation by the Forsyth County Sheriff's Office.

According to his obituary released Tuesday, Alston primarily lived with his mother, Erica Harrison, in Sugar Hill. He was a second-grader at Sugar Hill Elementary and "excelled in math and loved reading." He loved football, baseball, golf and karate, video games and his dog, Snickers.
