MARIETTA (AP) -- Authorities say permits for concealed weapons have surged in a large metro Atlanta county since the July 20 movie theater shooting rampage in Colorado that killed 12 people and wounded dozens more.
Melinda Carter, supervisor of Cobb County Probate Court's firearms permit division, says that officials typically process about 25 applications for concealed weapon permits each day.
Carter said that since the shooting, that number had doubled to around 50 per day.
Firearms sales are also up nationwide as buyers express fears about both personal safety. Meanwhile, some lawmakers are using the Colorado shooting to seek new weapons restrictions.
The shootings have also triggered fierce debate over gun control and whether government has a role in reining in the ownership of firearms.

It's smart for people to figure out that they are responsible for their own safety. As for reining in gun ownership, rein in the psychopaths and murderers and there will be no gun problem.

We don't have a gun problem in this country, we have a mentally ill people problem. This is what happens when you don't put them away like in the old days.
