GAB: Jackson EMC awards $65K in grants

LAWRENCEVILLE -- The Jackson EMC Foundation, a charity funded by the electric cooperative's members through their donations to the Operation Round Up program, has awarded grants totaling more than $65K to seven agencies serving Gwinnett County residents.

The grants included:

-- $15,000 to the Children's Center for Hope and Healing.

-- $15,000 to the Fragile Kids Foundation.

-- $14,143 to Good Samaritan Health Center of Gwinnett.

-- $10,000 to the Gwinnett Environmental and Heritage Center.

-- $3,600 to Kidstuff USA.

-- $3,556 to the Athens Nurses Clinic.

-- $3,200 to Friends of the State Botanical Garden of Georgia.

Lift Up Atlanta to provide food, free haircuts

DULUTH -- Lift Up Atlanta is sponsoring Rainbow Village, a transitional housing program for homeless women and children, with a pizza party and school supply drive for the children of the organization on Thursday.

Lift Up Atlanta will be providing food, free haircuts and children's activities.

The back to school party will be held at Pleasant Hill Presbyterian Church at 3700 Pleasant Hill Road in Duluth.

The organization is looking for volunteers and sponsors for the event.
