ATLANTA (AP) — The longtime spokesman for fast-food chain Chick-fil-A died Friday. He was 60.
The Atlanta-based company said in a prepared statement that vice president for corporate public relations Donald A. Perry died suddenly Friday morning. The cause of death was not released by the company.
Perry worked at Chick-fil-A nearly 29 years.
"Don was an incredible friend, a consummate PR professional, and was absolutely in love with Chick-fil-A. His passing leaves a great hole in my life as well as the lives of everyone who worked with him," said Steve Robinson, executive vice president for marketing at Chick-fil-A.
The privately owned company known for putting faith ahead of profits by closing on Sundays sparked a new skirmish in the culture wars when president Dan Cathy recently took a public position against same-sex marriage. Cathy said the company is "guilty as charged" in support of what he called the biblical definition of the family unit.
Gay rights groups called for a boycott, a Muppets toy was pulled from kids' meals and politicians weighed in.
Christian conservatives, however, threw their support behind the company.

I don't understand why any one group boycotts a business because it doesn't support that group's philosophy? Is this not America, where freedom abounds and anybody, including businesses, are allowed to have opinions, even if they don't agree with yours??

I think my head is going to explode the next time I read a remark about Mr Cathy being against gay marriage, or taking a stance against it etc. All he did was answer a question. Now, of course we shall come to the Conclusion that, yes, he probably does not support it due to Him being in support of the traditional biblical def of marriage. SO WHAT. He didn't demean anyone. I really am so disgusted at how ridiculous this non-controversy has become. Rest in peace, Mr. Perry. And shame on any nasty fools that make tasteless remarks about his passing

the gays should stop applying to work there then. They don't need the companies money either. Let them go live in a state that approves gay marriage. They should be boycotting all the states that don't allow it, just like they are doing with this food chain. This is such a crop. If the gays had one moral whatsoever, they would leave those states that don't support them. What's good for one boycott, should apply to all. They are too stupid to use the same thinking about states. Ca. is waiting for them.
