GAB: Vaccination clinic scheduled for Saturday

SUWANEE -- The Georgia Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has scheduled a vaccination clinic for Saturday. The event will feature vaccinations for cats and dogs.

Tests and shots include the following: canine and feline rabies shots, $10; canine and feline distemper shots, $10; canine bordetella shots, $10; canine heartworm test, $25, microchip, $25; combo test, $25; and nail clipping, $10; deworming, $5; and flea treatment, $5.

The vaccination will take place at 1175 Buford Highway, suite 109, Suwanee.

Kidfest aims to help those in need

NORCROSS -- From 12:30 to 4:30 p.m. Aug. 11, organizers of the fourth annual KidFest are collecting school supplies for children in need.

The free event, which will be held at Belk at the Forum, 5165 Peachtree Parkway, Norcross, will feature two fashion shows by the Chick-fil-A cow and the Caribou Moose; performances by the Oswald Brothers as well as Reed Ferguson; and chef Jennifer Booker along with the Atlanta JR. League, Kids in the Kitchen, will be showcasing healthy snacks.

School supplies can also be donated at Belk, Trader Joe's and Gigi's Cupcakes located at the Forum shopping plaza as well as the Robert Fowler YMCA in Norcross from July 11-Aug. 11. A monster truck will deliver the school supplies on Aug. 13.

Campaign provides school supplies

ATLANTA -- The Children's Restoration Network has scheduled its 18th annual Back 2 School Day of Readiness, an event that provides 2,700 homeless children with new book bags filled with school supplies.

Scheduled for 2 to 6 p.m. Aug. 5 at Atlanta Mission's My Sister's House, 921 Howell Mill Road, Atlanta, the event will provide children in attendance with a new book bag filled with school supplies for the 2012-13 school year, medical screenings, hearing and vision tests, dental check-ups, haircuts and a buffet meal.

All services will be provided for free, and there will also be activities for children at the event, including a live DJ, face painting and necklace-making.
