LAWRENCEVILLE — Gwinnett police have charged a 63-year-old Lawrenceville woman with fatally shooting her husband in the home they shared.
Hannah M. Chung is being held on charges of murder and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime in the death of her husband, Young G. Chung, 64.
Gwinnett police spokesman Cpl. Edwin Ritter said officers and paramedics responded about 11 p.m. Sunday to what they thought was a cardiac arrest call at the Chungs' Park Grove Drive home, located in a neighborhood off of Cruse Road near Lawrenceville.
In the home, EMS staff discovered Chung upstairs, dead from a gunshot wound to the head. Hannah Chung and two other family members home at the time were taken outside and separated for questioning, according to a police report.
Investigators soon developed probable cause to charge Hannah Chung with murder. She is being held at the Gwinnett County Jail without bond.
An arrest warrant for Chung indicates the murder weapon was a Smith & Wesson revolver and that her husband was shot once in the back of his head. Homicide detectives have not released a motive, Ritter said.
Gwinnett police have no record of responding to the Chung residence. Court records indicate the couple had not filed for protective custody against one another, nor had they been involved in other civil matters in Gwinnett.
A probable cause hearing for Chung is scheduled for Aug. 10.
