Arson suspected in Stone Mountain fire

STONE MOUNTAIN -- Investigators have determined that a June fire in the 5100 block of Vivid Drive in Stone Mountain was intentionally set, officials said Tuesday.

Dispatched at 8 a.m. on June 22, fire crews found the home well involved with smoke and fire, which caused heavy damage to the home's interior. No one was home at the time, and no injuries were reported.

A woman who was displaced the damages returned home as firefighters were on the scene. Fire officials previously said neighbors provided information that the fire could have been arson.

Arson investigators reviewed information at the scene, the neighborhood and surrounding area and determined the blaze was suspicious, said Fire Department spokesman Lt. Colin Rhoden. They used a Fire K9 to assist after determining the fire's spread was unusual, Rhoden said.

Investigators ask anyone with information to contact the Gwinnett Fire Arson and Explosives Investigation Section at 678-518-4890 or the Georgia Arson Control Hotline at 1-800-282-5804.
