SNELLVILLE -- South Gwinnett High School's longtime principal Clay Hunter has taken a job with Atlanta Public Schools, and former Brookwood High School Principal Jane Stegall will take the helm until a permanent replacement is appointed.
Stegall, who served as principal of Brookwood High for five years prior to her retirement, will help open the school year, working with the community and aiding in the upcoming leadership transition.
District officials said the search has begun to fill the principal post. Once a candidate has been selected and approved by the school board, it will be announced to the school and community.
According to a news release, Hunter announced his departure on July 10 with plans to fill a leadership position in Atlanta Public Schools.
Calls to Hunter were not immediately returned.

Mr. Hunter was an incredible principal at South Gwinnett. In the few years he was there he made amazing positive changes. He will really be missed. What a loss for South! What a gain for APS!
