SUWANEE -- For the second time in two years, Peachtree Ridge High teacher Elfi Funk has been recognized for her work as a social studies teacher.
The Germany native was selected as Economics Teacher of the Year by the Georgia Council on Economic Education, according to a news release. The council annually selects a teacher not only for their content knowledge, but how they teach the subject.
On the Peachtree Ridge website, Funk's biography page says, "She plans and provides her lessons with the aim of allowing students to relate and identify with the topic, and experience the relevance of the information presented."
Funk moved to the United States 12 years ago, and has taught at Peachtree Ridge for seven years. She teaches Advanced Placement macroeconomics and college-prep, honors, and gifted economics and political systems.
Two years ago, Funk earned an honorable mention selection for her lesson plan contribution from Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta, and she was named 2010 Teach of the Year at Peachtree Ridge.
She earned her education in Dresden, Saxony, where she received a bachelor's degree and doctoral degree in history.
