SNELLVILLE -- A family of five has been displaced after a fire in their Windsor Court residence damaged the home's attic.
Officials said that firefighters arrived just before 1 a.m. after thunder and a lightning bolt were heard nearby. According to Lt. Colin S. Rhoden with Gwinnett County Fire, the homeowner checked the attic and found the fire blazing. He and his family evacuated the house, then called 911.
"Crews quickly entered the house and battled the blaze," Rhoden said, adding that conditions were "made more hazardous by the severe weather conditions and electrical power lines down in the middle of the street in front of the hosue."
Added Rhoden: "Crews put forth a great effort to extinguish the fire, avoid the hazards and save the majority of the contents of the home."
He said there was moderate damage to the attic and light damage to contents from the fire and firefighting efforts. No injuries were reported.
